Gemini Folders: How to Organize Your Chats

Gemini lets you pin, rename, and search your chats, but it doesn’t provide native folders or projects. If you keep separate conversations for work, research, writing, and personal projects, the pinned list can still become difficult to scan.

Pin GPTs adds folders directly to the Gemini web interface. You can create a folder structure, move pinned chats into it, and nest folders when one level isn’t enough.

Does Gemini Have Native Chat Folders?

No. Gemini’s web app currently gives you a Recent area with controls for pinning, renaming, searching, and deleting chats. It doesn’t give you a folder or project hierarchy for those conversations.

That leaves you with two choices: keep scrolling through a flat list or add a folder layer with an extension. If you only need to find a chat occasionally, Gemini’s built-in search may be enough. For recurring work, folders are easier to scan.

How to Add Folders to Gemini

Pin GPTs works in Gemini on the web through Chrome or Firefox. To get started:

1. Install Pin GPTs from the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons.
2. Open Gemini in your browser.
3. Open the Gemini sidebar. Pin GPTs will add a Pinned section with controls for pinning, creating folders, and searching your saved chats.

How to Pin Gemini Chats

You can pin a Gemini conversation in either of these ways:

• Drag a chat from Gemini’s chat list into the injected Pinned section.
• Open the chat, then click the Pin chat button in the header of the injected sidebar.

The second option is useful when you already have the conversation open. The chat will appear in your saved Pin GPTs list.

How to Create Gemini Folders

1. In the injected sidebar, click the Create folder icon next to the pin button.
2. Enter a folder name such as Work, Research, or Writing.
3. Drag a pinned chat onto the folder.
4. To create a subfolder, click the folder’s Create folder icon, then give the new folder a name.

You can repeat this to build a hierarchy such as Work > Client projects > Launch plan. To reorganize it later, drag chats or folders to a new location.
